Granada has a street dedicated to the founder of the workshop of artistic lanterns Hijos de Estévez. The street goes from Avenida de Andalucía to Escultor Pablo Loyzaga.

Pedro Fernández Estévez was born in Alcalá la Real (Jaén), he moved to Granada at a very early age, becoming an autodidactic artisan because he was disabled of both legs, producing small pieces used for lighting, mainly oil lamps of the period and more elaborately what should become the lantern we all know today; Some years later he establishes a small workshop in the famous Calle Elvira later transferred with some of his sons to Calle Lucena. Nowadays it’s established in Calle Buensuceso.


His varied shapes and sizes are exhibited in the World Pavilion of Fair of New York or in successive exhibitions in various Europe countries and almost all of North America where the creations of Fernández Estévez’s family have been exporter. He received different diplomas on artisan works, in addition to the one of Spain’s Exemplary Artisan and Province’s Distinguished Artisan, and to round off the Bronze Medal of Merit at Work (1st of May of 1970).
